Can Rotary Lifts be Installed Outside?

Subject:Outside Lift Installation

Two Post Lifts: The lift may be installed outdoors provided it is located under a covering suitable for protection from direct precipitation. The standard power unit motor and overhead switch are not suitable for applications where the motor or overhead switch could be subjected to direct precipitation or jets of water, such as a wash bay.

Four Post Lifts: This lift can also be installed outdoors provided it is located under a covering suitable for protection form direct precipitation.

The four post family of lifts is classified as a Hydraulically Driven Mechanical Lift, meaning only the cables support the vehicle weight. These lifts require more frequent inspection and maintenance and experience accelerated wear and tear when not protected from the elements. For this reason, we DO NOT recommend that the lift be installed where it has direct exposure to the elements or in a wash bay.

Low and Mid Rise Lifts: This style lift may be installed outside provided some type of cover is placed over the power unit.

When installing lifts outdoors, all electrical must meet local codes concerning the application. This may include, but is not limited to, Ground Fault Interrupter (GFI) circuit breakers and watertight conduit and fittings.

Even though our lifts utilize components that resist rusting, such as black oxide pins and galvanized cables, any lift installed outdoors will require additional maintenance. Consult your authorized Rotary Installer before installing a lift for outside application.
